Dear Mr. Carter
Over the years I've had many speculations about Lil Wayne.
I can't even sit here and lie to you, and act like I'm not a fan of his.
If anyone reading this blog is not familiar with Mr. Carter, please allow me to school you.
Lil Wayne (aka Weezy aka Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) was born and raised in Hollygrove, New Orleans. He began to rap at just 8yrs of age and was noticed by Cash Money Records CEO and head man Bryan Williams (aka Baby, aka Birdman)
No but seriously who thought that Birdman's real name was Bryan Williams... seriously though...
In 1997 Wayne became a part of the group "Hot Boys" featuring upcoming rappers such as Juvenile, B.G., and Turk. He also worked with the "Big Tymers" which included Baby, and Mannie Fresh.
Two of their more familiar hit songs included "Back that *ss up", and "Bling Bling"
Weezy took his highest fame during summer 2008 when he released "The Carter III". It's easy for me to say that there wasn't one day of summer that I wasn't listening, or (attempting) to rap to this album.
I've never been able to memorize any rap album, and Weezy's was my first.
Lil Wayne is a character that will continue to forever question my mind. There's been so much speculation about whether or not he's real, if he really writes his own lyrics, if he "f*cked every girl in the world" etc. And I'm going to admit that I haven't always been a faithful fan of his, just because I was never sure if what I was hearing was the real deal.
Rap to me is the most serious genre of music. It's the most controversial way to express yourself musically. I just find it so much deeper than any other form of music, it's so deep that the most upsetting thing to hear about your favorite rapper is that he or she is a fake. I've taken a lot of time to study the life and ways of Mr. Carter, and I have made the decision to commit myself to becoming one out of his MILLIONS of fans.
Throughout this past year I've been given the opportunity to see/meet celebrities that I had never imagined would ever grace my presence. From shaking hands with Common, to chillin on the tour bus with N.E.R.D., I'm more than comfortable with making conversation, and being in the presence of celebrities. It's now easy for me to imagine myself conversing with any celebrity, I know exactly what to say. But when it comes to Lil Wayne, I am completely speechless. For some odd reason, I just can't imagine what I would ever do if I were given the opportunity to speak to him. Wayne is such a powerful being, and I appreciate his life so much that the thought of his presence just simply overwhelms my mind. I'm not even sure if I'd even be able to handle seeing him in concert. So what am I supposed to do?
I know you're all thinking why does this matter cup of rahman? This is why:
When there is something I want to do in life, I'm going to make it happen. I refuse to sit back and let the world change before me without me being a part of it. Therefore, this is how I'm going to change the world....
Unfortunately Mr. Carter has been detained for 8 months, which means that for now I won't be able to meet him face to face, so I'm going to write him. Everybody knows that Weezy's fans are a huge part of what makes him who he is. The most beautiful part about it is that Wayne is incredibly appreciative for them, which is why I love him so much. He gives back. He gives back in a way that I've never seen any artist do before. In fact since he's been detained hes used his twitter page to respond to fan letters. He's experienced so much pain, yet he remains surrounded by an infinity of love.
If you can imagine the power that he carries, you may understand why it is so difficult for me to wrap my head around trying to understand him.
My mission is to write him a letter, but this wont just be any other letter. It's going to be different than the rest.
When he receives my letter, I will wait for him to respond. And yes everyone, he will respond. I know he will.
And when he does, I will post my letter, and his response.
If there is anything that anyone should learn from this post, it's that life is about taking chances.
If there is something that you want to do, and you are so passionate about it, what do you have to lose?
Go people. Make your move. Because you only live once. And from the wise words of Weezy "Repetition is the father of learning." Don't stop the practice. If you get shut down, get back up and try again.
Some dreams may seem unrealistic, but they're only unrealistic until you make them your reality.
